Southwest Iowa farm families are invited to learn about options that are best for your operation and family at an Estate Planning and Family Farm Transfer Workshop on February 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Armstrong Research Farm near Lewis. This day-long workshop gives participants tools and the chance to use those tools to help them prepare or revise an estate plan, as well as learn more about topics that may impact estate and farm transfer decisions. Topics for the day include estate planning goals, property ownership, federal estate/gift taxes, Iowa inheritance tax, farm transfer/succession goals, business entities, strategies for transferring farm assets, nursing home insurance, and equitable treatment of on and off-farm heirs in estate plans. The day will conclude with a Q & A session for participants to ask specific questions.
